Friends and Family,

Today we had our level 2 ultrasound at the perinatal clinic.  We received a limited amount of new information, but the appointment was very helpful as far as giving us an opportunity to ask the questions we have gathered throughout the week.
Today’s ultrasound showed the same problems we learned about last week, namely an event like a stroke occurred that has prevented some brain tissue growth on the left side.
The main area in which we were helped was in chances of survival.  The doctor felt confident that Henryk will survive until and after birth.  He is growing every day and his body shows no indication of impacts at this point.  The “quality” of his life will be unknown, in that we cannot predict the level of handicap he will face.  The doctor has also said that they will be unable to give us that information in any test.  It will be something that we learn as we go.  The range is wide.
Today was also helpful in providing us a plan moving forward.  There will be many appointments.  We will have a fetal brain MRI on Tuesday to try to determine how much of the left side was impacted (this technology was not possible with the ultrasound).  Our care will be transferred fully to the Perinatal Clinic, and Emily will be seen there every week in order to try to make sure she goes full term.  We will also meet with a neonatalogist before Henryk is born to gather information on what his birth may look like – for example, we are expecting him to be admitted to the NICU after birth.
Overall, we are very relieved but also realize that there are many potential challenges ahead.  We cannot thank you enough for your support and prayer this week.  Honestly, we felt like we needed all that prayer just so that we didn’t stop breathing during the ultrasound today, we were so nervous!

This week Romans 8:38 has proved very helpful – For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our prayer requests moving forward are:

1 – For us to move forward in faith and joy and teamwork no matter what challenges we face with Henryk’s development.

2 – That God’s glory would be displayed in this process and in Henryk’s life.

3 – For Henryk to be safely in the womb until full term, and for his little body to be fully functioning at birth.
4 – For Lily to have understanding beyond her years and for us to love her well.

We cannot express our thanks to you enough.  The outpouring of sweetness and care has been overwhelming and wonderful.

Much Love,
Michael & Emily
